I really don't think there is anything more rewarding than spending time with kids, teaching them skills and sharing your talents.
We're so lucky that my children attend a charter school, where parent involvement is encouraged. Last year one of the teachers suggested that we create electives, based on parent's skills and talents. It was an amazing success... This is our second year.
Some of the classes offered are: Handyman, Music Jamming, Spanish, Gardening, Cooking, Cosmetology, Creek Clean up, Mixed Media, Yearbook, Treasure Boxes, Reading, Codes and Mysteries and of course...I'm teaching Jewelry!
It gives the children access to ideas and skills that aren't usually offered in elementary schools. In addition to the electives class...I teach art Fridays in both of my kids classes. It's usually messy, loud and sooo much fun!
If you have children at school and you don't already volunteer....try to fit it in to your schedule, it really is so rewarding!
Diana has been making jewelry as a hobby for years, so she was a great helper on many of the projects.
Mrs. Wilkes, the teacher who helped with the class, and Caroline picking out some extra beads to take home on the last day.
Amy and Riley who's Showing off her beautiful necklace creation. Her mom Lauri was treated to some wonderful new jewelry after this class.
