My house is filled to the brim with boxes awaiting our big move this week.
All of this boxing and purging has gotten me thinking about green ideas for my unwanted stuff...I'd hate for anything I'm no longer using to end up in a landfill. Here are some of the places I take my unwanted items.
So who ever said that you were only allowed to do spring cleaning. Any time of year is a great time to be donating your unwanted items to charities.
Some ideas for unwanted items around your house.
1) Homeless Shelters- This time of year they are always looking for blankets, jacket and towels.
2) Church- If you have an active youth group or children's program at your church or synagogue, often they are looking for toys that your children may have outgrown. (also great for the chilren's room at a local Gym)
3) Schools-Almost anything can become a craft or art idea. Think about the uses for an unmatched sock. Ribbon, paper, almost anything. Another great organization is Arts and Scraps in Detroit Michigan which turns unused items into art projects. They have a link to other similar groups.
4) Food Banks- Why not clean out the pantry.
5) Animal Shelters-this is another great place to donate worn out towels or blanket.
6) Local Thrift stores-find a thrift store that supports a cause you believe in.
7) Shoe drive-our church had a shoe drive where over 1000 new or slightly used shoes were delivered to Africa. My kids grow so fast they never wear out their shoes.
8) Dress for success This is a wonderful place to donate your unused business attire.
9) Habitat for humanity ReStore- If you are planning a remodel. Save some of the fixtures, cabinets and left over tile.
9) ReDo reuse development organization. This is a great all around resource for finding places to donate items. Great link to lots of sites for finding where to donate items.
