Yipee...our new house

Ok, so those of you who know me...work for me...read my newsletter...live within about 100 miles of me....have come in contact with me anytime for any reason in the last year and a half...know about our CRAZY house search. 

But just in case you don't...here's our saga.  We found some land about 20 months ago, so we figured let's sell our house and buy it, so we can build again.  Well...our house sold in 2 days AND we didn't get the land.  We listed without a contingency...I'll just say...I didn't LOVE our realtor.  So we switched realtors and continued our search. 

So many things happened over the course of the last year and a half...I won't bore you....needless to say...my friends, employees and family haven't been so lucky!  Today is a very happy day for ALL of them, I'm sure. 

Finally we found a house and today is a big day for celebration....we closed escrow.  It's close to our favorite beach, my office, Jim's office and the kid's school.  It's on 3 1/4 acres and has quite a few big oak trees.  Yipee...space for the kids.

Design Inspiration...

All of us were blessed with different and varied talents, one of my talents is jewelry. I'm also blessed with hearing stories of how my designs have touched other people's lives.  Often when customers come into the store they ask "how do come up with all of the ideas?"

So, I'm going to start sharing my design inspirations. To start it off,  I figured I'd share with one of my favorite sayings.

This is one of my first designs and without a doubt my favorite.  Jim and I both wear it as a ring and I also wear it as a shortened version dreams come true chunky choker. 

Almost 13 years ago when my company was brand new...My then boyfriend...Jim asked my dad for my hand in marriage.  At the time web pages were pretty special and Jim (a computer engineer) posted a web page to ask my dad if he could marry me.  Old fashioned, with a 1990's twist.  He showed my dad the web page.  My dad sent back his typical smart alec response via email...and then ended it with...

"May your wildest dreams come true." 

I still have a copy of the email in my studio.  And most days, I still feel like Jim is my dream come true.  I'm thankful for my blessings.

Pumpkin Time

We are so lucky that we live just around the corner from the Avila Valley Barn.  I'm reminded of this every year when I see just how many tourists come to visit during Pumpkin time.  I'm not a fan of crowds, so it's pretty hard for me.  We tend to spend quite a bit of time there on weekdays after school, when the crowds are less. 

But every year I brave the crowds during pumpkin season once or twice.  We buy a few pumpkins, feed the goats, eat some ice cream and pose for pictures in the mountains of pumpkins. 

If you notice Nikolas is advertising his daddy's music software company, Way Out Ware on the T shirt. We are all pretty excited....Pete Townshend from the Who just gave Jim's newest synthesizer a big thumbs up.  Nikolas is especially excited, since the Who is his favorite band.  Go figure...his parents love classic rock.

Early secret link to the vermeil inspirational jewelry designs

 

In today's economic times, affordability is key...with these designs you get the look of gold without the GOLD price tag.  If you aren't already familiar with Vermeil (pronounced VER-MAY), it is sterling silver that has been plated with a 100 micro inches of gold (that's thick in terms of gold plating. In our case it's plated in 14K gold. We have chosen some of our best selling designs.  But special orders for most of our designs can be taken care of. 

We are offering the charms sold individually from the chain, so you can mix and match charms. We have two options for chain...Vermeil Ball Chain or thin Gold Filled link chain. 

Camping at the beach...

before it gets too cold.  Since buying the van we've been trying to use it as much as possible.  It has been great fun for family time.  It has also been a great time for me to design...I bring a sketch book on all of our trips and spend some time coming up with new jewelry designs.  Stay tuned...the designs are in the works. 

The kids did their best to recreate Stonehenge.  The plane ticket to England for spring break last year has paid for itself, in inspiration.  They named it Rock Henge.  Since they said...rocks are smaller than stone henge.  Jim's a huge fan, so he quoted the Spinal Tap scene when they order the wrong size for the Stonehenge set. I think he's seen the movie about 100 times. He says it's not just the movie it's the music. Musicans! 

If you look closely...you'll notice one wooden lentil...just like they think the real one had. 

The kids made it as soon as we got there and the tide didn't take it away, so they added a wall around it the second day.  Jim and I enjoyed talking while the kids were busy building.  It was great to listen to passerby's saying...
things like "cool, it's stonehenge"  or "woah, did you kids make that?" When we left it was still there.  The kids were joking that it might become a mystery of who made it just like the real one. 

Ok...he doesn't only have a van...now he looks like a hippie too.  Every few years Jim grows his hair (it grows REALLY fast) to donate to Locks for love.  I joke that there is so much grey now...what do they do with it...they actually pick it out and sell it.  This time Kyra says she's donating with daddy.

Kyra's Collection in American Girl Magazine

So today when the mail arrived I got great news...

The article about Kyra and her jewelry collection came out in American Girl Magazine.  It's in the November/December issue that is on news stands now, so go out and buy your daughter or yourself a copy! 

The article is about several girls that have taken something they do to give back in meaningful ways to the community. 

If you are not already familiar with Kyra's Collection.  She created the designs when she was inspired by a trip to the grocery store, by a company that donates 100% of their profits after taxes and she wanted to do something to help others..."like the smiling guy on the cookies."

Mom and Nik art night....

Every Thursday night Kyra has soccer practice and Nik's favorite thing to do is come into my studio to make art with mom.  Last week was cutting rubber stamps (only 1 band aid) this week was leather stamping.

Really...I do bathe the kid...the paint on his arm wasn't even my fault for once.  But I do have to admit he does need a haircut. 

I find art with kids is a natural...and since I'm a creative mom...it's my favorite activity.  Kyra says now we need to have a collection for Nikolas..She's already named it Nik's Knacks! 

hmmm...We'll have to think about that.
