Our gardens

We have really been enjoying the country living...

First we put in raised beds for the veggie garden
Queeen of the dirt pile.
After realizing that deer love pretty much EVERYTHING green...we put up a tall fence so I won't be looking up how to make venison sausage on the internet anymore.  (just kidding...kinda)

Second try at cucumbers...after the deer ate all of the first round! 

Last weekend I put in a cutting garden...so I could have cut flowers!  I can't wait until it all fills in! I have to figure out how many bulbs I can add in! I collected all of the rocks off the hill behind our house!

I always buy way too many plants...gotta figure out where to put these! 

The Zoo Gallery

I dream of one day taking a road trip around the United States to visit all of the wonderful stores that sell my jewelry.....The dream usually starts with the Zoo Gallery (actually there are 3 stores!) Located in the Florida panhandle. 

I often get happy emails from customers that have found my jewelry designs at the Zoo Gallery and they just have to tell me what a wonderful shop and the helpful staff are at the stores. 

One customer emailed me that he takes a vacation there every year and she and her sister buy my rings.  She must have quite a collection by now, she's been going there for 8 years!

Softball Season

Ok...so I always think Summer is for baseball and softball. Our season has come and gone. 

Amy Peters' Studio was the sponsor of the team!  Each of the girls on the team got a Necklace. 

When I was little it was my favorite sport.  Not such good luck with Kyra....The season ended with 0 wins, 1 hit in the leg (shorts on a cold day...ouch) and 1 broken nose. 

I was told the ball JUST missed her glove and hit her dead on in the face.  Luckily...it was dead on.  Other than the black eyes you can see in this picture, her nose didn't tweak much at all...just a little puffy! 

So needless to say...my softball sponsorship days are behind me!  I think we'll try tennis next!

Chickens...

Ok...So I have been a little slow to post about our new pets.  This year we bought baby chickens... The kids love them.

Lessons learned.
1) buy all of the chickens at once or you'll end up with too many.  They are so cute it's HARD to say no to just one more if you visit the feed store every week. 
2) Don't get a Duck...no matter how cute they are...they are loud and poop everywhere!
3) As hard as you try to get JUST female chickens you usually end up with 1 rooster.
4) Don't get chickens unless your kids will REALLY muck out the coop.  Luckily Kyra usually doesn't complain!
5) It's cheaper to buy eggs at the grocery store (at least so far) We'll see how this one turns out. 
6) They are more fun as pets than I'd ever imagine! 

Rhode Island Red ladies...about 3 weeks old.

Day old Silver Laces Wynadottes, day old flightless Mallard Duck and 3 week old Partridge Cochin (this is the one who turned out to be a rooster!)

So time has just passed by and I've been meaning to post about the ladies in the coop...We let them roam around during the day, but at night they go back home to keep them safe from wild animals! 

We found our first (and second and third) egg this weekend. 

The little brown egg is our first egg...the others are store bought.  Our eggs will get bigger soon.  Hopefully you are looking at our last store bought eggs. 

This little lady went AWOL for a bit and we found her under the deck on top of egg number 3.  UGH...now she seems a little obsessed with nesting under there.  Good Thing Kyra and Nik can reach under there and get the eggs. 

So I was dead set against a rooster...oh well...This is Chicken Little...isn't he cute!  He is so tame...and not too loud since he's a bantam rooster.  Kyra did homework with him on her lap.  We just can't get rid of him!
